AntiRSI App Reviews

Better than the rest ...

... I think I tried almost every anti-RSI app for the mac over the last years and this is the one I stick to. Eats almost zero CPU time and is unobtrusive enough but still a friendly reminder to give your wrists, shoulders and brain(s, if you have multiple) a brake. Thanks, dev! I threw away my free version today and bought this one from th AppStore to give some love ... :)

More confusing than helpful

Due to the 5-star evaluations here in the app store I was convinced to get a premium app at that price. Yet I was deceived and have some critics, resp. feedback for optimisation: - the description of the indicators that the app shows (inner and outer circle in dock icon and menu icon) is not spontaneously clear (description missing) - the usage of the indicators (colours, circle length) is more confusing than helpful (e.g. if you don’t move the mouse/touchpad for some seconds the app considers this as a ‚natural break‘ - which is not correct, as it is not really a break: your eyes and brain are still working. This could be much simpler, clearer and helpful - the micro pauses don’t pop up in a ‚logical‘ flow: same problem as with the indicator of the icon in dock: once you move the mouse the pause is postponed - no button to change/influence this - there is no option to add a digital time indicator to the menu bar icon (which is a common standard for such apps). + the support/feedback is quick and informative IN SUM: + nice idea. Hope, there will be an update for this app soon - as the idea of an animated icon in the dock is nice and ‚unique‘ - that’ s why I decided to chose this app - yet: the current version makes few sense/help in usage (you concentrate more on the changing unlogic colours than on your work - or: pause.

Very, very nice

This app is quite clever. The concept of mini pauses and larger pauses is good. The very good thing of this app is that it logs your activity and adapts the pause requirements accordingly. This so much better than all this useless, fixed-interval Pomodoro stuff! It’s very generous by the author that he’s still offering the previous version —which still works perfectly— for free. Also many thanks for the option to turn off the menu bar icon! My menu bar is already more than overcrowded…

Useful but a little buggy

Usually does a great job of staying out of the way, and the consistent breaks definitely help my pain. However the CPU usage sometimes goes way up for no apparent reason, causing my Mac to get hot and the fan to get annoyingly loud. Also it sometimes starts a break when Im watching a video full screen, so suddenly I cant seem to click anywhere.

Great for more than RSI

I spend all day at the computer, and I use this app as a reminder to take the short breaks I need to keep my head clear. Usually I set it at 3 minutes once an hour, but when I have a particularly tedious task, Ill shorten it to avoid glazing over. It helps me keep my productivity up and stress levels down.

Saved my hands

Ive used AntiRSI for many versions now. Combined with a Kinesis Keyboard, they have allowed me to stabilize my RSI, and thus my career. It is very frustrating at first to deal with the micro pauses, but they are essential for anyone who has problematic hands.

Doesnt work well with multiple displays

MacBook Pro w/ Lion. I often attach/detach my MacBook to/from an external monitor. AntiRSI often doesnt show the break window until I terminate & restart it.

Keeps the pain at bay

I recommend this app to everyone I know who struggles with wrist or hand pain from using the computer. Personally, Ive been using the older free version of this app for months now and it has been instrumental in reducing my pain. Im happy I got the chance to support the developer here on the App Store.

Good Stuff

I work with power tools during the day, then come home to program at night, so my wrists get plenty of wear. This app helps keep me away from tendonitis pain. I like that you can customize the break length with simple sliders. I really like the menu bar option, too.

Must have for the RSI afflicted

Ive had this program for years now and it keeps my RSI at bay. Highly recommended for anyone with or without problems. I just wish it would keep tabs on how much ive typed over the course of the day, like WorkRave which Ive used on my linux machines. This new version is a nice update to v2.0.

Your wrists will thank you

Ive been using a free version of this software for years, but its worth paying for now that its being sold on the Mac App Store. It has a nice, simple interface. Set it to open at login in your account, and youll be better off for it.

The cpu usage is too high.

I have used this application for more than three years, but I finally give up with it is bacause the CPU usage is too high, it take me 5~10 of CPU usage all the time, and I dont know why it take so much CPU resources for such simple app. I droped a mail to the dev website but no answer.

Somewhat broken in Mountaion Lion

Ive been very happy with this app for years, but now under OS X 10.8 its gotten a bit broken. If youd had a break in the past, now when you switch between any two spaces the Work Break window appears briefly, as long as the animation lasts. Very very annoying!

I Prefer the Older Version

I found that I actually prefer AntiRSI 1.4 njr4 edition which is still free online, over this version which I paid for. It has some cool additions like a work session timer on the dock icon, and it only displays a single Work Break window when plugged into a 2nd monitor

Multiple displays and spaces - thanks!

Ive really enjoyed using this software, and its the most important part of my anti-RSI regimen after not using a mouse! Im really happy to see the break windows stay visible across multiple displays and spaces in this update.

Good app

Very helpful for preventing my back pain. But few glitches can be fixed maybe in later version. The timer seems not working/recognizing when you use 2 fingers scrolling and 3 fingers draging. So it happens to me when I was reading some paper so that I only use trackpad for scrolling. The app seems still recognize me as taking a break.

Perfect level of interruption

I really love the notification system used by this app. Every other similar app either: - pops up a small notification that I never notice or - pops up a modal dialog that steals my keystrokes or otherwise totally interrupts my work This does a perfect job of making itself noticed but still allowing me to complete whatever thought Im in the middle of at the time. I also like that I can quickly snooze the notification but its persistent enough that I cant really keep ignoring it. The only thing Id like to see is some sort of AppleScript or other trigger mechanism -- I use this as part of a Pomodoro time management system, and it would be nice if I could have it trigger events in other apps when I hit or complete a break.

Needs fixing—even more broken under Yosemite.

Ive been using AntiRSI for years—its an essential Mac app if you are struggling with RSI. The author has abandoned it, unfortunately, and it doesn’t work properly under Yosemite. The text on the break display don’t display properly anymore. Bugs/Issues: • Text doesn’t display on Yosemite • Hold focus feature (which is nice) needs to switch focus to your app afterwards. Otherwise anti-RSI is requiring more RSI-inducing clicks to use!!! • Also, I wish the micropause slider could register at smaller, perhaps 30-second increments. I should note that I’ve been using this for years, and have previously made a large donation when it was donation-ware and then bought it again on the app store, but am sad the author seems to have abandoned this software.

Fantastic for CTS/RSI

I suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome in my right wrist, and this application is absolutely indispensible. It’s a simple idea, but so incredibly well executed that it’s worth pretty much any amount they’d charge. At the base level, it makes you take short breaks often and a long break every hour or so — this is demonstrably good for people suffering from RSI/CTS. It’s very intelligent about detecting “natural breaks” (i.e. moments when you’re not using the keyboard) and will incorporate those natural pauses into its timers, meaning you can skip some short breaks if you took them anyway. This helps you stay more productive / focused by eliminating redundant breaks. If you have RSI/CTS, you already know how much of an impact it has on your life. Software like this helps you manage these chronic problems. Well worth installing.
